It's always interesting, and sometimes a bit surprising, to look at some data that you think you know from a completely new perspective. Just recently, I played a bit with word clouds made using the titles, authors, journal, and year of my publications. Word clouds have the power to illustrate at a glance the main components of a group, and are commonly used to show trends on news sites or popular tags in discussion groups. In all four clouds hat I generated using Wordle, the size of the font used is proportional to the number of times that word is used, while colors are randomly chosen from a palette. The order in which the clouds appears is random and changes every time the page is loaded.
